Thanksgiving Potluck
Bhaktivedanta Academy's annual Thanksgiving Potluck is Friday, November 18. Our students share a wonderful Thanksgiving style feast with preparations brought from home on this day.  Please sign-up online for the item you can bring for your child's class.

Family Fun Day at Poe Springs Park
Join us for our first Bhaktivedanta Academy family fun day of the school year. We will gather at the main pavilion at Poe Springs Park near the play set and sports fields. A pasta and salad lunch will be provided by Radha's Kitchen. The weather will be beautiful for a nice day outdoors. We hope you will join us.

Drop-Off / Pick-Up Reminders
Thank you all for patiently working together with us as we have all gotten into the new drop-off and pick-up routine this school year. We are now humming along fairly smoothly and just wanted to remind everyone of a few things to ensure student safety:
  • Stay within the 5 m.p.h. maximum speed limit driving into and through the entire parking area.
  • Pull fully to the right to allow pass through traffic in the left lane if utilizing the drop-off and pick-up lane.
  • Do not exit your vehicle on the driver’s side of the car. All students should exit from the passenger side only.
  • Pay careful attention to pedestrians around your vehicle before maneuvering your car out of the drop-off/pick-up lane.
  • Do not park in front of the pick-up / drop-off lane. If you need to attend to something after using the pick-up / drop-off, please pull into a parking space within the lot.
  • Do not use cell phones while in the parking area.
Lunch Order Contacts
With the addition of Gopal’s Cuisine to the weekly lunch options, it is now possible to order lunch for your child Tuesday - Friday. Lunch orders are a private arrangement between our families and the caterer and are not tracked or managed by the school office. Below is contact information for the caterers currently making lunches available in case you need to reach them regarding your child's lunch:

Notes and Reminders for Week of October 17

Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that the first quarter of the school year is almost over. We are headed into the second quarter with many things coming up, so we are taking a few minutes to give you the run down:

Family Open House
Please join us for our annual open house event on Thursday, October 20 starting at 6 p.m. Visit all the classrooms and see student work demonstrations, participate in a special Damodara prayer with candle offering, launch sky lanterns, and enjoy tea and cookies. We look forward to seeing you!

Spirit Day Dress Up Date Change
Since spirit day is so close to October 31 and also coincides with Harvest Festival/Govardhana Puja, we are asking students to save their devotional personality dress up for that day instead of dressing up on Thursday.

Harvest Festival
Our annual Harvest Festival and Govardhana Puja celebration will be held on Monday, October 31. We are looking to make this one our best ever with fun Vrindavan and cow themed activities for all the students that will culminate in a big Govardhana Puja celebration at the end of the school day. Students are encouraged to come dressed up as devotional personalities, animals, or birds that would be found in Vrindavan. Be on the lookout for a volunteer signup sheet that will be going out shortly.

Hurricane Days
We are hopefully done with severe weather closures for the remainder of this year. We are grateful that we all made it through with no major issues. We don't anticipate having any make up days due to the closures. Our normally scheduled academic hours exceed Florida state requirements, so even with 2 days out, we are still well above the requirements at every grade level.

Messenger 2
Preparations are underway for the sequel to our Messenger student performance from last year – Messenger Part II: Planting the Seed. The performance will be at the ISKCON Alachua Temple pavilion on Friday, November 11 at 5 p.m. It should be another great event. Please save the date.

This is just a short listing of upcoming events. Please refer to the school website, snack calendars, monthly updates, and Friends of Bhaktivedanta Academy Facebook group for the latest details.
